Genesis Preps for WOW Season 5 with Unique Chest and Shoulder Workout

Selena O’Sullivan, widely recognized by wrestling fans as "Genesis," is intensifying her training as she prepares for Season 5 of WOW—Women Of Wrestling. In an interview with M&F Hers, she highlights her focus on grip strength, a critical element in maintaining her edge in the competition.

Genesis’s character resonates deeply with her background. “I’m billed as being from the harsh Australian outback, which is 100% true,” she states, hailing from Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory, a remote mining town. Her formative years were shaped by a fondness for action films and martial arts, influenced by icons like Jackie Chan. “I was a super tomboy,” Genesis recalls. Her journey began with local karate classes, which laid the groundwork for her passion in fighting. Eventually, she transitioned from the Australian wilderness to Los Angeles, continuing her training in acting and stunt performance, where she learned Wing Chun and Muay Thai. “As Genesis, I wield nunchucks,” she explains, showcasing her unique skills that have defined her wrestling persona since debuting with WOW in 2019.

Learning the Craft of Pro Wrestling

The transition from martial arts to professional wrestling is a learning curve that Genesis embraced during her tryout at WOW’s training school. “I loved it,” she shares. However, she quickly realized that the mechanics of falling in wrestling differ significantly from martial arts, where impact is often resisted rather than embraced. “When you first jump and land on your back, it’s a massive shock to the body,” Genesis comments. Fortunately, she’s guided by the experience of Selina Majors, a wrestling legend who helps wrestlers understand the art of storytelling in the ring. “Selina is fantastic for learning the mentality behind wrestling,” says Genesis. “It’s about more than just executing impressive moves.”

Genesis considers her evolution as a wrestler a continuous journey. Embracing new challenges, she’s tested her limits with daring maneuvers like a twisting leg drop from the second turnbuckle. “We love this sport, but we always have to be careful with one another,” she explains. “You only attempt certain moves when you're in peak condition. Of course, mistakes happen—that's why we dedicate ourselves to training.”

Genesis's Upper Body Workout Tips

Outside the ring, Genesis cherishes outdoor activities such as hiking to recharge her mind. Yet she dedicates significant time at the gym focusing on her upper body strength. Here’s a glimpse into her chest and shoulder workout:

Warmup on the Elliptical

The workout consists of 8-12 reps for each exercise, performed over three rounds:

  • Standing Cable Flies
  • Shoulder Press Machine
  • Chest Dips
  • Standing Cable Crossovers

Genesis emphasizes grip strength, incorporating wrist rotation synchronously with each rep. Known as “wringing,” this technique enhances forearm stability and functional grip. “That’s what you lose if you neglect it,” she warns, stressing the necessity to execute movements with agility, as wrestling positions can get quite complicated.

Understanding the balance between strength and flexibility, Genesis is also proactive about stretching post-workout.

Anticipating a New Season

Genesis is eager for the upcoming season of WOW, preparing to unleash impressive tricks to intimidate her competitors. “If I could add another weapon, it would definitely be a bow staff,” she says with a glint of excitement.

Having witnessed Santana Garrett crowned as the new WOW world champion in the season four finale, Genesis is eager for her shot at the title. “I’m ready for title shots,” she asserts, focused on dethroning Garrett, who currently tops her list. “She’s number one on my radar!”
